CZECH-GERMANY WALK
420 MILES of HIKING TRAIL MAGIC in 2012
The Jacobsweg is one of many Pilgrim Paths throughout Europe.
Having walked the Camino across Spain in 2010, I became hooked on the idea of traversing a country on foot. I decided to walk the Jacobsweg from Prague in the Czech Republic, to Tubingen in Germany - a 420 mile adventure stretched out over 23 walking days. I averaged 17 miles per day with the longest day being a 24.8 mile trek.
I love walking through small charming villages and stopping at the town square for a coffee with a bite to eat while watching the local activity. By walking, I really get to feel the transitions from town to woods and pastures. Every turn of the path presents another photo op. I love the solitude of the path and the ’time out’ to notice nature and oneself. It’s nice to go slow along this journey to embrace not being familiar with anything and to just let the day unfold.
You can discover more about my Czech-Germany Walk by listening to the presentation I gave for Connie Regan Blake’s A Slice of Life, An Evening of Stories. I talk about the part of my journey that went through the Czech Republic. DOWNLOAD & LISTEN TO: Trail Angels in the Czech Republic.
While listening, check out this visual presentation of the entire trail. The photos are in order of my walk, from left to right, starting with my backpack.
On this adventure I learned I love exploring countries on foot. I love being open to new experiences and getting to meet really interesting people along the way. I also learn that being out of my comfort zone has become one of my comfort zones. I love the freedom to be spontaneous when traveling solo. It’s great to have that feeling of trusting one own instincts as well as trusting that everything will always works out!
The Czech-Germany walk inspired this Story Skyrt.
