REFLECTIONS

A beautiful country with beautiful people.

On the last day at our meet up spot on the side of the road, a group of young people engage me in conversation. They share that they are students and want to practice their English so I ask each one of them about their studies and their dreams. We have a lot of laughs.

The Avenue of the Baobabs is humbling. They can live 800 to 1,000 years! If we knew their language, think of the stories they could tell us. I learn that the fruit is very high in vitamin C and fiber and has more antioxidants than any other fruit.

I really like what Leigh said after we climbed the steep hike at the top of Tinsgy Park:

It’s not about making it easy, it’s about making it an adventure.

I also like not being in one those tourist vehicles with the windows closed that would pass us. We get to have real interactions with people in villages. It is such a joy to hear the children shouting to us and their big smiles when we greet them in return. The trip is so humbling and reminds us not to judge. The people here are so industrious and on the go and very quick to smile and laugh.

I can be bicycling without soul in sight and come across a group of men with their shovels and machetes returning from the fields and never feel uncomfortable. Even the dogs here are friendly. I never had to worry about a dog chasing me. I never saw litter.

I rode 410 miles.

I had no idea what to expect & learned what a pleasure it was to ride with a group, particularly this group!

I was so inspired by this trip and my many memories of the people, the animals, and the plants that my photos from this adventure ended up as 3 conversation starting skirts!
